Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai Massage, also known as Nuad Boran, is an ancient energy-based healing. Thai Yoga Massage combines assisted yoga postures, acupressure, and reflexology.

Nuad Boran evolved in Thailand over 2,000 years ago and has a strong influence for Indian Ayurvedic medicine. The founding father of Thai massage, an Ayurvedic doctor named Jivaka Kumar Bhacca, was known in Thailand as the Father of Medicine. Traditional Thai Massage is based on a series of energy pathways and acupressure points that are similar to the Nadis that are the basis of Ayurvedic medicine. There are over 72,000 energy channels in the body which connect treatment points. They can be treated by manipulation or meditation to clear the channel and bring about healing. There are 10 major Sen lines that are treated during a Thai Yoga massage to promote healing and balance in the body.

What to Expect During a Session

Unlike western massage, a Thai massage is carried out on a floor mat where the client wears loose comfortable clothing and no oils or lotions are used. The practitioner is in constant contact with the client during the session by moving the body slowly by rocking and compressing the Sen lines to release energy blocks. The practitioner will use the palms of the hands, thumbs, elbows, knees, feet, and toes to create a dance of movement on the client's body, which is completely relaxed. Through this method, energy blockages are released and the mind and body is balanced. Gradual pressure and deep stretching postures are used to get the desired effect. A frequently asked question is “do I have to be flexible?” The answer is NO the practitioner will work within your limits during the session.

Herbal Compress

Hot herbal compresses may be used before, during, or after treatment session. The compresses are made for the individual from a variety of fresh and dry herbs such as ginger, lemongrass, turmeric, eucaluptus, galangal, camphor. The compresses are made by combining the materials in a bundle cloth and steamed in hot water. After the session the client can take the compress with them to use as a bath infusion, loofa, or keep it in the fridge and heat back up to massage themself or a spouse. The compress can keep up to a week!

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a modality that focuses on the treatment of trigger points, which are painful points located within taut bands of muscle, treated primarily with the application of sustained, usually static pressure or deep stripping glides. This is sometimes referred to as ischemic pressure, and can vary from very light to heavy depending on the stage of development of the trigger point. Through the softening of trigger points, NMT aims to reduce chronic pain, increase range of motion, and correct postural distortions.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The word Reiki is comprised of two Japanese words - “Rei” meaning “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and “Ki” which is “life force energy.” Reiki treats the whole person including the physical, mental, and emotional bodies, as well as the spirit. The client will feel relaxed, at peace, secure, and an overall sense of well being. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected or blocked parts of the energy field and charging it with positive energy, increasing the vibrations in the energy field in and around the body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart, cleaning the energy lines and field allowing the “Ki” to flow naturally. Reiki is performed by the practitioner laying their hands on the client or can also be done distantly.

About Kamati's Massage Therapist - Randi Morrison

Randi's journey towards healing began while attending University of North Carolina (UNCC). While earning a BS in Athletic Training, her unearthing interest of the human body arose. She then attended, and later taught at, Southeastern Neuromuscular Massage School, where she found her passion.

She continues to educate herself within the field of Neuromuscular Massage and has also found a new love in Thai Massage. Currently holding over 200 hours as a Registered Thai Therapist, Randi is well versed in this form of mystic healing and has witnessed the deeper aspects of releases it brings to her clients on many levels. Randi’s diligence and self-study includes trips to Thailand, where she learns abroad at the Sunshine School of Massage and studies with Mama Lek and her son Jack. Randi believes that a good massage therapist is a combination of passion, knowledge, and intuition. She has a high degree of sensitivity toward others and continually works to expand her knowledge in order provide her clients with the greatest level of care possible. Her firm belief is “You can’t give what you don’t have. I am here to help release the pain, quiet the mind and bring awareness.”

Massage Workshops

Yoga Workshops

Audrey was first introduced to yoga in high school at her local gym, but really fell in love with it at the YMCA while in college at UNC Charlotte. After graduating Magna cum Laude with a BA in Dance in 2003, she began teaching and dancing professionally, but yoga has been ever-present in her life. Audrey was originally drawn to yoga for its athleticism, grace, and natural rhythm, but it wasn't until practicing for several years that she discovered the emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits. A quieter mind, and kinder heart, and a stronger and more flexible body is what keeps her coming back to the mat.

Inspired and seeking more, Audrey became a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher in 2008 under the tutelage of Dolly Stavros. Specializing in Vinyasa Yoga, she teaches in a challenging yet compassionate style, always keeping a light heart and a keen eye for detail. Audrey believes in teaching for her students, not at them. She tailors each session to the client's individual needs and requests - pushing students to new boundaries with an encouraging and positive voice. Audrey invites you to join in her continued quest to unveil a better Self (inside and out), discovering the possibilities just below the surface, and creating a better world. Photo by Wanda Koch

Vinyasa Yoga

This dynamic, flowing practice links movement to breath and trains the mind to focus on the present moment and posture. While building strength, flexibility, and coordination, this powerful practice emphasizes proper alignment and smooth transitions. Vinyasa is designed to challenge and inspire you, while offering modifications for all skill levels.

Basic Yoga

This class breaks down poses, focusing on alignment and safety, gradually progressing into a moderate Vinyasa flow. By focusing on details and options, students create a deeper understanding of their own bodies and the postures. Great for anyone new to yoga, or seasoned yogis looking to reconnect to their foundations.

Deep Stretch Yoga

Consisting of primarily floor poses, Deep Stretch encourages tight muscles to soften and the mind to relax. By holding seated or supine postures for several minutes, tight shoulders, hips, and hamstrings are allowed to release. Perfect for runners or all types of athletes, or anyone seeking a calming yoga experience.

Yin Yoga

This is Deep Stretch to the MAX! Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissues (ligaments, bones, and joints) of the body, especially in the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Suitable for all levels, Yin Yoga beautifully complements the "Yang", or more dynamic styles of yoga, which emphasize movement and flow and utilizing the large muscle groups. About Kathryn Fish
